Dr. Fuhrman will be contributing to our website!

Allow us to introduce Dr. Fuhrman and his insights…

In response to the numerous requests for information and an equal amount of requests for a Healthy Living Section on our site, the Foundation has enlisted the nutritional and lifestyle expertise of Dr. Joel Fuhrman. On a personal note, as Executive Vice President of the Foundation, I have read Dr. Fuhrman's books and subscribed to his website, which provides an online forum with Dr. Fuhrman to ask him questions directly in real-time. I also ordered some of his wonderful products. In fact, after just 8 weeks of following his program, I’ve lost 20 pounds, experienced extraordinary results in reducing my total cholesterol levels from 214 to 155, and I’ve achieved a overall nutritional balance.

After having the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Fuhrman personally, we are confident that he is the best individual to assist the Colon Cancer Foundation in providing to our followers the most current information on health, nutrition, and colon cancer prevention. Dr. Fuhrman has agreed to contribute on a regular basis with important updates on nutrition and health. You can view his website at www.drfuhrman.com

I came across this blog, and your story reminds me of an author I know. Alesia Shute is a childhood cancer survivor who has shared her story in her book, Everything's Okay. 100% of the profits of her book go to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the very place she fought and won her own battle with cancer. Check out her website-www.everythingsokaybook.com, maybe you could work together to spread the message.

I would like to personally thank you for this inspiring story of Susie.

My father was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. He had surgery to remove the cancer. This did not go too well. He was given a 25% chance of survival..

I too believe that early detection is the only way to put a stop to this disease...

Everyone of us should have this procedure done as early as possible. If this had been done a lot early, quite possible my dad would of been saved...

So to everyone, please get checked.. Save your self and your family the hardship that they will have to endure...

God bless..

Julie

My problems began with a very painful menstrual cycle, followed by no menstrual cycle, and months of trying to diagnose the pain I felt in my chest (they thought it was heart-related). I had a blood transfusion with no explanation then, finally, in the E.R. in severe pain, a CT scan was performed which revealed a "mass". The surgeon decided to do exploratory surgery which revealed stage I colon cancer. Thankfully, all that was required was a partial colon removal. I was 28 yrs. old, and have been in remission for 11 yrs. One side effect of having abdominal surgery is the formation of adhesions, which is scar tissue that forms. I developed adhesions which caused a bowel obstruction that required surgery and more resectioning of my colon...

At the age of 35 I lost my father to Colon Cancer. He was 59. His symptoms begain with stomach pain and irregular bowel movments. Eventually the pain became so severe he was taken to the emergency room where he was quickly diagnosed with a large tumor in in colon. After a CAT scan it was obvious that he had cancer in the liver, stomach and lungs. He had the tumor removed and began chemo therapy. He was give 3-6 months to live. He made it 9 months. During his illness I promised that I would take care of myself and get examined and have a colonoscopy to prevent what happen to him. End of story. Not quite. At 43 I went in and asked to have a colonoscopy in which my insurance company promptly denied. I was much too young for a test like that. I got in touch with them and asked to reconsider and supplied them with copies of my father's medical bills totaling some 800k. They reconsidered and I had my first colonoscopy. The results were what you would think. Absolutely
clean. No polyps or anything of the sort. I continued to have yearly physicals which included occult feces test and not once was there a trace of blood found. I had no pain nor irregularities. Then at 48 I had my complete physical again and wanted to add a colonscopy as it had been 5 years since the last. All my lab work was good. Again, I had resistance in having the colonscopy from the insurance. Went through the same drill. On a Thursday morning I took off from work and had the colonoscopy. When I came to I was greated by the Doctor. He gave me the news that he had found a large malignant in appearing mass. He took six samples for a biopsy and we waited to hear the outcome over the Christmas Holidays. Came back precancerous. So I had another coloscopy so that they could remove the tumor and get a sample for biopsy. Two days later the results came back as cancerous. I was pretty shocked as I had done everything right. Everything I was told to do. Everything I promised my Dad I would do to prevent this. I then had a CAT scan to see if it had spread and if it had it was not in my liver or stomach. One week later I had a colon resection to remove part of the diseased colon. During the surgery the Doctor saw other areas in the colon at risk. About ten inches of colon and intestine were removed. I waited for the pathology to come back as I healed. I had good days and bad days. I begin to plan what my regiment would be if I needed Chemo so I could continue to work. I took long walks in the hospital to get stronger. The last day of my stay just minutes before leaving my Doctor gave me the news that it had not spead. Numerous lymph nodes were tested and all were negative. The areas of the colon that were removerd tested positive for cancer. It was stage 2 and I would not need chemo just regular evaluations by the Doctor and yearly colonoscopies. I say all this to let the readers know please get checked. I was so close. It is a horrible disease
but if caught early it can be beaten. I wish you all the best and good health.

Most individuals develop colon cancer rather slowly, over several years. The first stage of development occurs when a mass of tissues, tumors or polyps (a cluster of benign tumors) grow within the colon walls.
